Ticks, Evelyn E.

Evelyn E. Ticks, age 90, of New London, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. She was born on March 3, 1921 in West Bloomfield, daughter of the late August and Dora Strey, where she lived with her 9 brothers and sisters until she married Leonard Ticks. Leonard and Evelyn farmed all their life in the Town of Lebanon. They raised two daughters, Bonnie and Marla. Evelyn was a member of Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in New London. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening, canning, freezing and having relatives over for birthdays and other parties. She spent the last year living with her granddaughter Sherry Stein who cared for her. In her younger years, Evelyn was a 4-H leader and a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Mission Society. She is survived by two daughters: Bonnie Soward, New London; Marla (Edward) Larson, Hortonville; grandchildren: Keith (Karen) Larson, Manawa; Sherry (Rick) Stein, New London; great-granddaughters: Paige Stein and Morgan Larson; sisters: Lavera Strey, Appleton; Beatrice Artz, Clintonville; Carole (Emory) Beckman, Fremont; and Sylvia Theis, Appleton; also numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Leonard, brothers Raymond Strey and Alvin Strey; sisters: Lila Bestul, Dorothy Gough and Eleanor Ratajczak. The Christian Funeral for Evelyn was held on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 11:00 am at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. Friends called at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
