Manawa Board of Education reorganizes

During the July 25 meeting of the Manawa Board of Education, Kurt Kreklow was appointed as the new board president, due to the death of Dan Nolan.

Kreklow stated, “I would like to thank the for putting me into this position. Dan Nolan was a tremendous asset to this community and this school board. He will truly be missed. I know I am going to stumble through this and I ask for help from the board, Mr. Braun and the rest of the administration. I will do my best to fulfill the Presidency and ask that you please be patient with me as I learn my new role.” Carl Artz was appointed as Vice President.

Board does not approve PLO agreement

In other business, a motion was made by Paul Sturm not to approve the Police Liaison Officer Agreement for 2011-2012. David Strebe seconded that motion.

Brenda Freeman, Waupaca County District Attorney’s Office, addressed the board stating, “We cannot put a cost on the safety of our children. This is about the protection of our students, staff and community as whole.”

Sturm adds, “It’s not a financial matter. Parents prefer that the first level of discipline be handled by the principals and counselors. The voters put me into office and the people that have approached me are telling me that this is what they want, and I want to be that voice for the people that contacted me.”

The motion was unanimously carried. Manawa School District has had a Liaison Officer for the past 13 years.

Resignations approved

Resignations were accepted from Stacey White, Kindergarten teacher, whom has been with the district for 11 years and Marion Brown, Library Aide, who has been with the district for 18 years. Due to resignations, Becky Stormoen was reinstated in the 4K Position.

Duane Braun, recognized the Manawa Youth Sports Organization and their dedicated parents for making their school district a better place. “I was up at their coach pitch tournament this past weekend. When the parents were not coaching, they were helping to put in the new backstop. It is so nice to see parents getting involved to help our school.”
