New London’s Solberg performing at Martha’s Vineyard

Anna Solberg, of New London, performed several arias at OperaFest 2011 on Martha’s Vineyard July 22.

She performed “Tangled Paths of Love: Romantic Scenes from Classic Opera”, a full performance of opera, with other up-and-coming young singers from the East Coast and as far away as Mexico and the Midwest.

“Anna is so sweet and so dear and has a real spark and I am really enjoying her work and her energy,” said Maggie L. Harrer, producing director of OperaFest 2011.

The students also presented excerpts from “South Pacific” in the community sing at The Tabernacle in Oak Bluffs on Wednesday, July 20.

The Claudette Peterson OperaFest on Martha’s Vineyard is an intensive two-week opera-training program for talented, committed young up-and-coming singers. OperaFest began seven years ago in Tolentino, Italy and moved to the Vineyard four summers ago.

OperaFest 2011 offers vocal coaching, master classes in all aspects of opera performance from diction to structure and musical phrasing, acting and role preparation, to stage movement and makeup, Pilates and yoga. During the two-weeks, students prepare and rehearsing arias and scenes from classic opera and art songs. In addition to the final performance at Union Chapel, and the Tabernacle Group Sing, they perform an invited concert of Art Songs.
