Not exactly a starving artist

Katie Brant, a junior at New London High School, found it hard to land a job this summer. She kept herself busy like most young people her age, helping around the house, mowing lawn and babysitting. Like many others, Katie is anxiously waiting for school to start. She likes to be kept busy and always meets a challenge head on.

Then she was approached by her neighbor, Paul Neilson, and asked if she would like to paint a picture of a boat on the wall of the garage commonly known through the neighborhood as the ‘man cave’. She happily jumped right in. It required a lot of her time and talent and she did an excellent job.

Many New Londoners can remember when boats like the one Katie painted used to come to New London for the summer festivals. There were several racers that called New London home. The shores would be packed with a few thousand people who came to watch the races. The cost of racing and hosting an event like that has caused this sport to all but disappear in our area.

Katie will keep the memories and stories alive with her painting for all who come and see and enjoy it. Katie did a great job.
