Buchholz, Harold L.

Harold Laverne Buchholz, age 91, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011 at Living Oaks Assisted Living in Iola, Wisconsin. Harold was born on January 18, 1920 in Westfield, Wisconsin to Julius Herman Buchholz and Mary (Henke) Buchholz. Harold married Ruth Olson on June 18, 1949 in Iola. He worked for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture as a meat inspector and retired in 1985. Harold was a dedicated public servant who served on the Iola Village Board and as Village President for 25 years. He also served on the Waupaca County Board for 10 years along with numerous county committees. Harold was a member of the Iola Lion’s Club for 62 years and was the only remaining charter member. He was previously a member of the Iola Fire and Ambulance Service, Iola Old Car Show volunteer and a Boy Scout leader. Harold and Ruth are longtime members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola, Wisconsin. Harold enjoyed gardening and lawn care, travel, reading and being a community volunteer. He is survived by his wife, Ruth and five children: Pat (John) O’Neill of Pinckney, Michigan; Christine (Victor) Anthony of Waupaca, Wisconsin; John (Vicki Zwiers) Buchholz of Denver, Colorado; Marie (Rodney) Meagher of Gardnerville, Nevada and Sarah (Peter) Smith of Neenah, Wisconsin; Grandchildren: Mark Pintar, Jennifer Stimson, Karen Gabler, Katie Anthony, Carol Anthony-Beal, Laura Ramsborg, Bradley Smith, Megan and Jeff Meagher and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Hilda Ebert of Shoreview, MN; Elda Wilkenson of Waukesha, WI; Frieda(Vern) Bohlman of Elk River, MN, and Brother Donald(Mary)Buchholz of Westfield, WI. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Mary Buchholz, his brother Arnold and two brothers in infancy. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola, WI. Visitation will be on Friday, September 9th from 4PM to 7PM at Voie Funeral Home in Iola and prior to the funeral at 10AM at the church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Harold can be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Iola, Wisconsin; the Iola Living Assistance Endowment Fund or the Lion’s Pride Fund, Rosholt, Wisconsin.
