Slow, no-wake issue is about fairness

Having slow, no wake starting at noon on Fridays instead of midnight Friday is more than about safety and relieving congestion. It is also about noise, waves and being fair to everyone.

I added up some numbers. People who support wake on Fridays have 71 percent of the week for wake. Slow, no-wake supporters want 12 more hours starting at noon Friday. People who prefer it starting at noon Friday appreciate this time to have people over, enjoy their property and have a conversation without having to shout because of waves and noise from speed boaters, water skiers, jet skiers and wake boarders. I’m not even mentioning the noise from water ski shows, bands and motorcycles.

Some are presuming people are not coming by boat for a Friday night fish fry because of slow, no-wake, forgetting everyones business is down because of the economy and perhaps, boaters are being more selective as to the day they come to Fremont and not coming as often.

It takes 15 more minutes to go through the village of Fremont because of slow, no-wake. Slow down, enjoy the beauty of the river for an extra 30 minutes and tie up your boat at the local businesses without waves bouncing it into the dock.
