The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbird volleyball team opened Central Wisconsin 8 Conference play by splitting its first two matches with Amherst and Shiocton.
The T-Birds took three of four games from Amherst Thursday, Sept. 8, and lost all three two days earlier to the Chiefs.

IOLA – Lidia Frias led the T-Birds with 12 digs and eight kills, while Krista Mortenson and Elle Maus added 12 assists and 10 digs, respectively, in a win over the Falcons.
The T-Birds won the first game 25-12 and lost the second, 25-21, but sealed the match with 25-19 and 25-13 wins in the third and fourth games.
Shiocton 3, I-S 0
SHIOCTON – Nicole Ritchie led Shiocton with 16 kills as the Chiefs swept the match with 25-20, 25-13 and 25-15 scores.
The T-Birds played at Manawa Tuesday, Sept. 13, and will host Weyauwega-Fremont tonight (Thursday, Sept. 15), with matches slated to begin at 6 p.m. The varsity and junior varsity teams will also head to tournaments Saturday, Sept. 17. The varsity squad will travel to the Fox Valley Lutheran Invitational at 9 a.m. in Appleton, while the JV team will head to the Weyauwega-Fremont Invitational at 9:30 a.m. in Weyauwega.
