Lunch & Learn set for Nov. 8

The Waupaca Area Public Library’s next Lunch & Learn program will feature author Kathryn Jeffers’ presentation, “Back Home From the War: Growing up With A Soldier.”

It begins at noon Tuesday, Nov. 8 at the library.

Jeffers, of rural Iola, teaches communication at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and at UW-Madison.

During her program, she will talk about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and her audio book, “Long Trip to Arlington.”

“It’s a true story about my dad. He was at Pearl Harbor,” she said.

The book, which is recorded in Jeffers’ own voice, was written over the course of seven years as she and her family worked to discover what was going on with her father.

It was 60 years after his discharge from the U.S. Army Air Corps that they learned he had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and got him the him that he needed.

“This book is the whole story of how this happened,” Jeffers said. “It is like a miracle.”

Before her father passed away in 2004, he did get to hear the story.

“There were a lot of twists and turns over the course of the seven years,” she said. “That’s what the story is about.”

The Nov. 8 program includes a light lunch. To make a reservation, call the library’s main desk at 715-258-4414.
