Moore, John

John “Jack” J. Moore, age 85, of Iola, formerly of Waupaca, died Sunday, October 30th, 2011 at his residence. John was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 11, 1926, the son of the late George and Florence (O’Day) Moore. He married Joan Burkman on July 21, 1951 in Milwaukee. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2009. Jack was a graduate of St. Norbert College and received his Masters degree in biology and chemistry from Marquette University. He taught at Milwaukee Pius XI High School for over 35 years. Jack and Joan owned a cottage at Camp Cleghorn on the Chain O’ Lakes near Waupaca. They later moved to Iola to spend their retirement years. Jack enjoyed the outdoors including hunting for birds, along with fishing and golfing. He also was an avid reader of Westerns and would find him most often at the Iola Library. Jack also served in the United States Navy. He is survived by his Son: Kevin (Jackie) Moore of Ogdensburg. He is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his Sister: Virginia Burns. Private Graveside Services with Military Rites will be held at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at King. Voie Funeral Home of Iola is assisting the family with arrangements.
