Comets skate past Mosinee

Waupaca rebounded from its 6-3 loss to Northland Pines with a 3-2 win over Mosinee Tuesday, Dec. 13 in a Great Northern Conference hockey matchup.

The Comets are 4-1-0 in league play, while Pines and Mosinee are a half-game behind at 3-1-0.

Hunter Vezina and Sam Menzies scored for Waupaca in the game’s first four minutes. Vezina’s unassisted goal came 1:15 into the contest and he also assisted on Menzies’ goal.

Brodey Pecha cut the lead in half in the second period, but Vezina came up with the game-winner on an assist from Bjorn Asher with 50 seconds remaining.

Jared Sprink came up with Mosinee’s second goal with 46 seconds to go in the game.

Comet goalie Zach Martin stopped 32 shots, while Mosinee’s Jimmy Rogers finished with 17 saves.

The Comets will host Lakeland at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Waupaca Expo Center.
