Lakewood artist featured at Mosquito Hill

An exhibit of painted wood pieces by Lakewood artist Joan White will be featured in the gallery at Mosquito Hill Nature Center from Saturday, Jan. 7 through Feb. 26.

In the heart of the Nicolet National Forest, White turns gnarled, knotty pieces of wood into beautiful works of art. Her first foray into wood painting came when a client requested that she paint on a piece of barn wood. Today, painting on wood has become the artist’s trademark. Choosing and preparing the wood is as important as the painting itself because the wood’s character is such an important part of each piece.

Some of her pieces may be viewed at www.joanwhite.com.

The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular nature center hours: Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A Meet the Artist reception is scheduled for Jan. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. For details on future exhibits or other public programs at Mosquito Hill Nature Center, call 920-779-6433 or visit www.mosquitohill.com.
