Where are the nation and the world headed?

We are in our late 70s. Never have we seen such hatred, violence and incivility in the world since WWII.

We look to Egypt, Greece, England, France, Italy, Ireland and even Russia, and what do we see? Violence and riots throughout. We look to the U.S., and it’s the same thing, with uncivilized riots and protests.

We’ve heard several times that we’re becoming a Banana Republic. And, this week, Governor Scott Walker has received “Christmas cards” and letters from hateful people who call his wife ugly, and his children zombies and “f-ing animals.” We also heard such screaming protests on You Tube using the same profanity dozens of times from the occupiers.

The Wisconsin recall petitions have people signing as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Adolph Hitler, with addresses such as Berlin, Germany. Several people are signing recall petitions multiple times, including one guy who boasted publicly that he signed 80 times. Why do some Wisconsin people think all of this is acceptable behavior? This fact was actually stated by the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board judges themselves, on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, when Ron attended their monthly board meeting in Madison.

All of this stuff is crossing party lines, and it seems to be increasing. The entire Christmas bashing is also sickening. In fact, the paradox of our current societal climate is that here we are a country of laws, but the laws are being ignored and disregarded through hatred and dishonesty everywhere.

Finally, we as citizens of the U.S. really need to take stock, and make every effort to spread tolerance in our precious, but fragile society. The madness must stop. Is it possible to achieve some semblance of tolerance in the new year? We have a bit of trepidation on this, especially with the forthcoming elections in 2012, but we are going to try.
