Hanson, Rodger L.

Rodger L. Hanson, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, died Jan 1st, 2012 at Appleton Medical Center. Rodger was born in the Town of New Hope on Sept 25, 1938 to Hilda (Lee) and Clarence Hanson. He was baptized at North New Hope Lutheran Church and confirmed at Northland Lutheran Church. When only a boy, his father died and he had to start early doing what he did best, take care of his family. On April 20th, 1963 he married Sandra H. Olson and started his own family which would become the most important thing in his life. Rodger was in the army and stationed in Colorado where they had their first child, a son, Eric. When his army service was over he returned to Wisconsin and their family grew with the addition of four daughters: Holly, Rebecca, Krista, and Heidi. He set an example for his children by working proudly at the FWD in Clintonville for 45 years where he retired in 2006. He was a member of Hitterdahl Lutheran church, where he and his wife taught Sunday School. You could always find Rodger outside “fixing” his cars and tractors. There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time in the woods he loved dearly even if it was working hard to “make wood” to heat his home for the winter. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Orinne and Richard Kerske, a niece Vickie Hanson and an infant brother and infant sister. He is survived by his wife, Sandra and five children: Eric (Kim) Hanson and their son Ethan; Holly Hanson and her daughter Mikayla; Becky (Corey) Lippert and their daughters Katelynn and Brieanne; Krista (Stacey) Lippert and their daughters Josie and Ellie; Heidi (Lance) Andraschko and her son Cody (friend Kayla) Hanson and Cody’s daughter Kaedyn. He is further survived by a brother Verlyn (Shirley) Hanson and their son, Kelvin and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Hitterdahl Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dale Wilson officiating. Visitation was held on Wednesday from 4-7 PM at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola and again Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
