Foote, Mary Mae

Mary Mae Foote, Waupaca, WI, age 96 – passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. She was born on November 11, 1915 in LaFayette, WI, the daughter of LeRoy and Irma (Ludtke) Henry. She married Forrest Foote on January 24, 1938 in West Allis, WI. He preceded her in death in 1991. Growing up in West Milwaukee, she was her elementary school’s pianist until she was replaced by a new student… Liberace. A 32 year teaching career began at age 40 when the Iron County Superintendent of Schools asked her to fill a position in a one room (all eight grades) school in Springstead, WI. Teaching under a special permit, with only one year of college, it took 13 consecutive summer sessions and some night and Saturday courses to earn her degree from UW – Superior. She also taught school in Mercer and Port Washington, WI. Mary Mae is survived by her children: James (Brenda) Foote of Colgate, WI; Joan Foote, Allan (Peggy) Foote, and Nancy Foote, all of Waupaca, and Jerome (Linda) Foote of Cedarburg, WI; grandchildren: Lori Everts and Leigh Ann Foote of Waupaca; Julie Foote of Madison, WI; Heather Foote of Hayward, WI, and Lt. Kevin Foote of Crestview, FL, and great grandchildren: Rachael Foote, Anthony and Alaina Everts, all of Waupaca. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Radmer of Waupaca, brother-in-law, Dale Voss and his daughter, Marla Sue Sipes, both of Bloomfield, NM; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest, her parents, her sister, June Voss, and her brother, Dayton Henry. Mary Mae met her goal of celebrating her 96th birthday on 11/11/11. Per her request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers a donation to your favorite charity in her memory is appreciated. Many thanks to the women of Theda Care at Home Hospice.
