A slow start hurt the Iola-Scandinavia boys’ basketball team Thursday, Feb. 2, as Amherst kept pace with Bonduel in the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference standings with a 57-45 win over the Thunderbirds.
Meanwhile, I-S picked up a 62-51 nonconference win Tuesday, Jan. 31, over Rosholt.
Amherst 57, I-S 45
The Falcons outscored the T-Birds 17-2 in the first quarter and led 27-15 at halftime and 42-25 after three quarters before I-S cut into the lead with a 20-15 advantage over the final eight minutes.
Connor Lodewegen led the T-Birds with 16 points, while Isaac Lashua and Bradly Hardel added nine. Willie Doll and Steve Maves led Amherst with 18 and 17, respectively.
I-S fell to 1-9 in the CWC-8 and 4-14 overall, while the Falcons improved to 8-2 in league play and 13-4 overall.
I-S 62, Rosholt 51
A 25-point second quarter helped the T-Birds take a 26-27 halftime lead after both teams scored 11 points in the first quarter.
The T-Birds also outscored the visiting Hornets 13-10 in the third quarter, but Rosholt had a 14-13 advantage in the fourth.
Hardel and Lodewegen finished in double figures for the T-Birds with 19 and 14 points, respectively. Max Yenter led Rosholt with 17 points.
The T-Birds played at Manawa Tuesday, Feb. 7, and will host Weyauwega-Fremont Friday, Feb. 10.
