Manawa boys fall to Shiocton, down T-Birds

The Manawa boys basketball team split a pair of games last week. On Tuesday, Feb. 7 they beat Iola-Scandinavia to record their second win of the season. On Friday, Feb. 10 the team fell to Shiocton 73-37.

The Wolves got off to a hot start against Shiocton, outscoring them 15-8 in the first quarter. Shiocton battled back in the second quarter to take a one point lead at halftime. Manawa struggled mightily in the second half. They were outscored 29-8 in the third quarter and 20-6 in the fourth quarter.

Logan Hass was the only Manawa player to score in double digits, as he scored 12 points. Wesley Krauss chipped in with eight points.

Earlier in the week, Manawa defeated Iola-Scandinavia for its second win of the year. The two teams were evenly matched in the first half with Manawa holding a two point lead after the first quarter and then a one point lead at the end of two quarters.

Manawa had a huge third quarter, outscoring the T-Birds 24-11 and held a 53-39 lead entering the final quarter of the game. The T-Birds didn’t give up as they outscored the Wolves by 10 points in the fourth quarter, but the Wolves were able to hold on to a 58-54 victory.
