Truckers defeat Comets

Clintonville held Waupaca to nine or fewer points in each quarter and left the court with a 46-32 win Tuesday, Feb. 21, in an Eastern Valley Conference boys’ basketball matchup in Clintonville.

The Truckers outscored the Comets 21-5 in the first quarter and took a 31-14 into the locker room at halftime. Waupaca outscored the home team 9-4 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 35-23, but the Truckers had an 11-9 advantage over the final eight minutes.

Eric Schoohs had eight points to lead Waupaca, while John Schultz, Aaron Ziemer and Xavier Fletcher scored 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Clintonville.

The Comets will close out the regular season at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at home against Freedom for Parents’ Night.

Both teams will open state tournament play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28. Waupaca, a No. 10 seed in its Division 2 regional, will play at No. 7 New London, while No. 6 Clintonville will host No. 11 Oconto Falls in Division 3.

Winners will advance to a regional semifinal at 7 p.m. Friday, March 2.
