Area wrestlers place at state

Four area wrestlers returned home from the State Individual Wrestling Tournament with a medal.

Two of them also brought home a state championship.

Zach Sirny of Wild Rose/Wautoma capped an unbeaten senior season by winning the Division 2 106-pound championship Saturday, Feb. 25, with an 11-1 win over Osceola’s John Olson at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Meanwhile, Hortonville senior Kegan Gennrich won the Division 1 160-pound title with a 5-4 win over Jake Ratliff of Wisconsin Rapids.

Waupaca sophomore Levi Petroske advanced to the Division 2 semfinals at 126 and eventually placed fifth with an 11-10 win over Robert Csukker of Stanley-Boyd/Thorp.

Hortonville senior Cole Parker finished sixth in Division 1 at 145 after dropping a 5-4 decision to Merrill’s Mason Reinhardt in the fifth-place match.

Other area wrestlers competing at state included New London’s Kevin Urban (Division 1, 113); Weyauwega-Fremont’s Jared Gruetzmacher (Division 3, 132) and Trevor Potratz (Division 3, 145); Amherst’s Logan Hermsen (Division 3, 145); and Hortonville’s Derek Kuettel (Division 1, 152).
