Pomerenke charged with felony OWI

Michael W. Pomerenke, 32, Scandinavia, was charged with a fifth drunken driving offense, operating after revocation of his license and felony bail jumping.

Shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday, March 8, Waupaca Police Officer Josh Krueger was dispatched to Three Squares Restaurant after an employee called 911 and reported that a customer had left without paying his bill. The employee gave dispatch a license plate number.

Krueger saw the suspect vehicle and pulled it over. Although the driver had no ID on him, Krueger recognized him as Pomerenke because he had arrested him on Dec. 3, 2011, and cited him for a fourth OWI and operating after revocation.

Pomerenke appeared in court on Dec. 5, 2011, and was released on a $1,000 signature bond. On Dec. 20, 2011, the court found Pomerenke of refusing to take a blood-alcohol test and revoked his license for three years,

According to the criminal complaint, a preliminary breath test on March 8 indicated that Pomerenke had a 0.235 blood-alcohol level, which is nearly four times the legal limit for a first-time offense and more than 10 times the limit for someone out on bond for OWI.
