Indians split first two games

The Weyauwega-Fremont baseball team evened its record at 1-1 Thursday, April 5, with a 13-3 nonconference win over Wautoma.

The Indians also opened the season two days earlier with a 10-0 loss at Merrill.

WEYAUWEGA – Trevor Potratz went the distance and scattered four hits over six innings. He gave up one earned run and four walks and struck out five.

Wautoma struck first with a two runs in the top of the first inning. W-F scored a run in the bottom of the frame. Both teams scored a run in the third, but the Indians put the game away with four in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the sixth before the game ended due to the 10-run rule on Hunter Billington’s two-run single.

Billington, Potratz and Logan Erdman each had two of the Indians’ 10 hits.

Merrill 10, W-F 0

MERRILL – Tim Jahnke held the Indians hitless and Zach Jahnke had a three-run double for the Bluejays.

Wes Alix took the loss on the mound.

W-F opened Central Wisconsin 8 Conference play Tuesday, April 10, by hosting Bonduel. The Indians will also host Amherst at 4:30 p.m. today (Thursday, April 12).
