Coyotes sighted in Waupaca
Coyote sightings have been reported on Waupaca’s east side near Tower Road.
John Hammond, with WDUX, took a photo of a coyote in a field near the radio station Thursday, April 12.
Hammond said that for weeks, the morning radio hosts has been hearing coyote cackles just before sunrise, and howling prior to the trains coming through with their whistles.
WDUX staff have also seen the coyotes in the field where the station’s towers are located.
“Over the years we’ve noticed our own herd of deer, including at a pair of 10-point bucks every fall,” Hammond said. “It seems our property sits in a good area for deer, close to the marsh area to our north on Constance Road, and we also border the country club golf course to our west. They often browse in that tower field which is surrounded by tall, mature pines … good for cover and a great bedding site for does dropping their fawns every year, not far from our parking lot.”
Hammond said the deer have left the area for now and he believes the coyotes are now denning in the vicinity of the towers.
