Athletes advance to track sectionals

The road to the State Track and Field Meet continues Thursday, May 24, for several area athletes.

Individuals and relay teams needed to place in the top four at their respective regional Monday, May 21. Wild Rose had the biggest day of all area squads, as the Wildcat boys and girls each placed first at a Division 3 regional in Plainfield.

Division 1

Stevens Point Regional

STEVENS POINT – Waupaca freshman Macie Davidson had a big day for the Comets, as she won the girls’ 200- and 400-meter dashes (27.12 and 1:00.01) and took second in the long jump.

Also placing first were New London’s Gabe Roberts in the boys’ shot put (57 feet, 9 inches), Pete Marcy in the boys’ discus (158 feet, 7 inches), Amber Pethke in the girls’ 100-meter dash (13.3), Bridget Pethke in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles (48.08) and Macy Egan in the girls’ 1,600-meter run (5:31.91); and Hortonville’s girls’ 800-meter relay team of Jennifer Roberts, Sarah Glidden, Kathy Derks and Marina Eggen (1:45.91), girls’ 400-meter relay team of Roberts, Malory Arnold, Derks and Eggen (50.97) and girls’ 1,600-meter relay team of Jenna Green, Meagan Weisshahn, Derks and Glidden (4:06.61).

Seconds went to New London’s Joe Dailey in the boys’ high jump, Cambria Fitzgerald in the girls’ high jump, Brenna Heise in the girls’ triple jump and Amber Pethke in the girls’ 200; and Hortonville’s Eggen in the girls’ 100-meter dash and Weisshahn in the girls’ 400.

Thirds went to Waupaca’s Taylor Davidson in the girls’ 100; New London’s girls’ 3,200-meter relay team of Egan, Heise, Kara Hoier and Annalise Schroeder and Bridget Pethke in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles; and Hortonville’s Katelynn Lippert in the girls’ discus and Erin Ziesmer in the girls’ shot put.

Fourths went to Waupaca’s Alisa Blank in the girls’ 300 hurdles; New London’s Schroeder in the girls’ 3,200, the girls’ 1,600 relay team of Amber Pethke, Bridget Pethke, Lexi Roland and Candice Zehner and Sami Dedering in the girls’ long jump; and Hortonville’s Kenny Kromenaker in the boys’ long jump and Zach Lohrer in the boys’ 100.

New London, Hortonville and Waupaca finished third, fifth and eighth, respectively, among girls’ teams. New London, Hortonville and Waupaca placed seventh, eighth and ninth among boys’ teams.

Sectional qualifiers will compete Thursday at the Ashwaubenon Sectional.

Division 2

Ripon Regional

RIPON – Weyauwega-Fremont’s boys’ team placed third, while the girls were seventh.

First-place finishers for the Indians were Luke Rohloff in the boys’ 110 and 300 hurdles (15.12 and 41.88); Nick Thomas in the boys’ 1,600 (4:43.56); Elizabeth Abhold in the girls’ discus (107 feet, 8 inches); and Ellen Schroeder in the girls’ 800-meter run (2:26.79).

Seconds went to Danielle Austreng in the girls’ high jump; Abhold in the girls’ shot put; Megan Young in the girls’ 400; and Corey Zeutzius in the boys’ 400 and 800.

Thirds went to the girls’ 3,200 relay team of Jane Beyer, Amy Hingeveld, Alyse Peters, Schroeder, Miranda Reindl and Austreng; and Tanner Ross in the boys’ high jump.

Fourths went to Trevor Fitzpatrick in the boys’ triple jump; the girls’ 1,600 relay team of Austreng, Schroeder, Peters, Young, Beyer and Hingeveld; and Bryce Behn in the boys’ high jump.

Sectional qualifiers will compete Thursday at the Little Chute Sectional.

Oconto Regional

OCONTO – Clintonville’s girls and boys placed third and fourth, respectively.

First place finishers for the Truckers were Dominic Masiarchin in the boys’ 100, 200 and 400 (11.21, 22.19 and 49.38); Kyle Petermann in the boys’ discus (165 feet); Markiesa Westphal in the girls’ shot put (38 feet, 6 1/2 inches); Alicia Moon in the girls’ pole vault (9 feet, 6 inches); and Tyler Sawall in the boys’ 3,200 (9:56.85).

Seconds went to Allison Johnson in the girls’ 400 and high jump; the girls’ 3,200 relay team of Brianna Gretzinger, Ana Huber, Johnson and Samantha Hohn; Sawall in the boys’ 1,600; Hohn in the girls’ 3,200; and Petermann in the boys’ shot put.

Thirds went to the boys’ 800 relay team of Jesse Mayek, Nathan Poppe, Trenten Gauthier and Joe Pockat; Holly Mayek in the girls’ 200; the girls’ 1,600 relay team of Gretzinger, Sara Messner, Huber and Johnson; and Messner in the girls’ 1,600.

Fourths went to Poppe in the boys’ 800; Chrissy Betz in the girls’ 100 hurdles; and the girls’ 400 relay team of Elena Mederas, Treylee Schultz, Darcy Knaack and Mayek.

Sectional qualifiers will compete Thursday at the Little Chute Sectional.

Division 3

Marathon Regional

MARATHON – Iola-Scandinavia’s boys and girls placed fifth and third, respectively, while the Marion boys and girls were sixth and fourth.

First-place finishers included Iola-Scandinavia’s Emily Sether in the girls’ 1,600 and 3,200 (5:39.4 and 12:45.24); Shelby Trzebiatowski in the girls’ 800 (2:27.48); and Marion’s Cassidy Detert in the girls’ shot put and discus (35 feet, 7 3/4 inches and 114 feet, 6 inches).

Seconds went to Iola-Scandinavia’s Jordan Beyersdorf in the boys’ 300 hurdles, the boys’ 800 relay team of Matt Matheny, Devin Paulson, Beyersdorf and Dylan Robbins; and Marion’s Justin Miller in the boys’ 100, the girls’ 400 and 800 relay team of Michell Lasecki, Cassidy Wudstrack, Chelsea Bossell and Lauren Reissman, the boys’ 400 relay team of Adam Mielke, Tim Lehman, Brady Detert and Miller,

Fourths went to Iola-Scandinavia’s Peterson in the boys’ 800, Amanda Hardel in the girls’ 300 hurdles, Matheny in the boys’ 200, the boys’ 400 relay team of Matheny, Justin Schumacher, Josh Van Gunten and Ian Thurston, the girls’ 1,600 relay team of Brumer, Hardel, Trzebiatowski and Sether, Travis McKinney in the boys’ 100, ; and Marion’s Lasecki in the girls’ 200, Bossell in the triple jump and the boys’ 800 relay team of Mielke, Detert, Lehman and Miller.

Sectional qualifiers will compete Thursday at the Rosholt Sectional.

Tri-County Regional

PLAINFIELD – Wild Rose dominated the meet with several first-place championships including Paul Roemer in the boys’ discus (129 feet, 8 inches); Haley Hazlett in the girls’ high and long jumps (5 feet and 15 feet, 10 1/2 inches); Alec Dix in the boys’ triple and high jumps (42 feet, 7 1/2 inches and 6 feet, 1 inch); Stephanie Peterson in the girls’ 100 hurdles 916.59); Karina Marchan in the girls’ 100 (13.15); the girls’ 800 relay team of Johanna Shepard, Marchan, Makayla Muntner and Makayla Hecker (1:51.14); Darren Hudziak in the boys’ 400 and 800 (51.1 and 2:01.21); the girls’ 400 relay team of Noelle Rasmussen, Hazlett, Hecker and Marchan (52.4); Morgan Yeska in the girls’ 300 hurdles (47.99); the boys’ 1,600 relay team of Matt Paeth, Josh Erickson, Henry Gage and Hudziak (3:34.44); and Alex Mata in the boys’ shot put (45 feet, 6 3/4 inches).

Other firsts went to Amherst’s Katy Rutz in the shot put and discus (36 feet, 1/2 inch and 115 feet, 1 inch) and Jacob Brenner in the boys’ 100 (11.73).

Seconds went to Manawa’s Paige Schernecker in the girls’ 1,600 and Logan Hass in the boys’ 800; Amherst’s Lindsay Rutz in the shot put and discus, Nate Werner in the boys’ 1,600 and Brenner in the boys’ 200; Almond-Bancroft’s Rylee Anderson in the girls’ long jump; and Wild Rose’s Mata in the boys’ discus, Peterson in the girls’ high jump, Yeska in the girls’ 100 hurdles, Dix in the boys’ 110 hurdles and long jump, the boys’ 800 relay team of Micah Decker, Drew Dix, Ian Berkshire and Colton Brace, Hazlett in the girls’ 300 hurdles, Jon Cochrane in the boys’ 300 hurdles, Hecker in the girls’ 200, the girls’ 1,600 relay team of Muntner, Sydney Pavlat, Shepard and Yeska, Muntner in the girls’ triple jump and Alayna Kjentvet in the girls’ 800.

Fourths went to Manawa’s Hass in the boys’ triple jump, Ingersoll in the girls’ 100, the boys’ 400 relay team of Murphy, Ecklund, Aaron Strebe and Van Rossum, Loughrin in the girls’ 300 hurdles, Murphy in the boys’ 200, Schernecker in the girls’ 3,200 and Drath in the girls’ triple jump; Amherst’s girls’ 3,200 relay team of Nikki Felckowski, Alyssa Eiden, Emily Dalsky and Lily Kraft, the girls’ 800 relay team of Aree DeZort, Rachel Gordon, Abby Malone and McKenna Heck; and Wild Rose’s Nate Nimmer in the boys’ discus, Fontasia Robinson in the girls’ shot put, Jozie Hecker in the girls’ 200 and Paul Roemer in the boys’ shot put.

Sectional qualifiers will compete Thursday at the Rosholt Sectional.
