Waupaca Fourth of July parade detour revised

The annual Hometown Day Celebration parade on July 4 will follow a different route this year due to construction on South Main Street.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. and travel down North Main Street to Badger Street where it will turn east and end at State Street.

Because the road project is ahead of schedule, the route has been revised from the previous detour down Jefferson Street. The parade will be able to follow more of its traditional route down Main Street.

More than 80 businesses and organizations are expected to participate. This year’s theme os “Let Freedom Ring.”

Businesses or organization that want to enter the parade may download an entry form at www.WaupacaMemories.com under the Events tab.

After the parade, there will be food and entertainment at South Park. The Knights of Columbus will have their annual chicken barbecue in the upper shelter. The food wagon in the lower park will serve nachos, popcorn and cotton candy.

The Waupaca Comets “Shooting Stars” Competition Cheer Squad will be in the lower park serving burgers, brats, hotdogs, walking tacos, pulled pork sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, baked goods, soda and water. They will also have children’s games.

A fireworks display is slated for 9:30 p.m. over Shadow Lake at South Park. WDUX FM 92.7 will play patriotic music during the show.
