Benefit concert highlights local stars

Waupaca’s Own Benefit Concert is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at the Waupaca High School Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. and there will be a pre-concert performance in the lobby.

The 12 concert performers are Waupaca High School graduates who have distinguished themselves in music, coupled with some performing teachers at WHS as well. They are vocalists Dan Wolfgram, Eric Neuville, Lindsay Neuville, Kelly Hackett, Ashley Lowe, Kira Morrissey, Heather Elkenbary, John Hammond and Ken Lauer, and pianists Wanda Elkenbary and Joni Radley.

Sponsored by Neuville Motors and the Waupaca Breakfast Rotary Club, the eighth annual event is the major fundraiser for the WHS Vocal Music Department and the Rotary Club. Last year, proceeds from the performance provided $4,000 to the Vocal Music Scholarship Fund and more than $9,500 in educational grants for projects submitted by Waupaca teachers.

Any additional funds go toward the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, college and Fox Valley Technical Collage scholarships and Service-Above-Self Awards to middle school students.

The funds from this event come from sponsorships, free-will offerings at the door and from Thrivent Financial’s supplemental funding of up to $1,000.
