Lathrop, Margaret Opal

Margaret Opal Lathrop “MOL” (Nee Casey) passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in New London, WI at 101 years of age. Margaret was born in Royalton, WI on April 25, 1911, the daughter of Irvin and Nellie (Humes) Casey. Margaret attended the Royalton Grade School, and then graduated from both Manawa High School and the Oshkosh Business College in Oshkosh. On her birthday in 1935, Margaret married Edgar W. Lathrop in the Congregational Church in Royalton. Ed came all the way from Texarkana, Arkansas to meet, court and then be together with Margaret for 57 1/2 years. During her life, Margaret worked at the Borden Company, the Bi-County Co-op, Structo Inc., for Mr. Frank L. Zaug and the New London Hospital, each for durations of seven years. She also helped maintain the family farm for many years. Margaret was a longtime and active member of United Church of Christ in New London. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting fans, butterflies and bells, and going to the pool twice a week until the last half of her 100th year. She cheered on the Packers by blowing her whistle at the start of each game and was an avid Bulldog fan as she cheered on her son and grandsons in their sports. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Kay Huntley; son, Leonard (Connie) Lathrop; five grandsons: Scott (Teri) Huntley, Jeff (Linda) Huntley, Jay Huntley, Drake (Lisa) Lathrop, and Ty Lathrop; six great-grandsons: Alex, Tanner, Andrew and Austin Huntley, Dylan and Levi Lathrop; and two great-granddaughters, Kylie and Kenidi Lathrop. She is further survived by a special friend Maxine Cristy; many other relatives, friends, and neighbors. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Baby Boy Casey; husband, Ed on October 15, 1992; son-in-law, William Huntley; and infant granddaughter, Darci Lathrop. A funeral service for Margaret is being held today at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Cline and Hanson Funeral Home, with Pastor Greg Watling officiating. Visiting hours will be held directly at the funeral home beginning at 4:00 p.m. and continuing until the time of service. Interment will be at the Northport Ostrander Cemetery. “I tried to do good!” In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Hatten Park Stadium Restoration Project.
