Radtke, Douglas D.

Douglas D. Radtke, 73 of Stevens Point died Tuesday July 24, 2012, at his residence. He was under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. Doug was born on November 6, 1938 in New London. He was the son of the late Max and Alice (Anderson) Radtke. He attended schools in Manawa. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point in 1961. He received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin Madison in 1966. Doug served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. His marriage to Marcy Halkowski took place on July 25, 1987 in Stevens Point. Doug was a chemistry professor at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point for 38 years retiring in 1995. While teaching chemistry at UWSP, he also worked as assistant vice chancellor for business affairs. He served his community on various local government boards and committees, most recently working on the Portage County Board. He was a charter member of the Professor’s Investment Club. Emeritus member of the American Chemical Society where he served as the Chairman and National Councilor of the Central Wisconsin Section. Longtime member of social card groups. After retiring from the university, he pursued a lifelong passion for country life, as he and his wife lived and worked for 16 years on their extensive hobby farm.

Survivors include his wife Marcy Radtke. Daughters, Robin Radtke, Rene Fitch. Stepchildren: Rhonda (Joel) Rudicil, Lori Daniels, Sandi (Dan) Lundt, David (Debbie) Fritsch and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also survived by a brother, Jerry (Teri) Radtke and sister, Donna (Harland) Schellin.
To honor Doug’s wishes there will be no services. Memorials in Doug’s name to the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Foundation or the Portage County Humane Society.
