David J. Flanagan Jr., age 88, Bear Creek, WI died on Monday, August 20, 2012, at New London Family Medical Center, New London. David was born in Bear Creek WI, on January 20, 1924, son of the late David and Marie (Anthony) Flanagan. Dave graduated from Bear Creek High School followed by Lawrence Collage, Appleton WI, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. While attending Lawrence he was called into U.S. Army during WWII where he served in France, Austria, Belgium, and Germany until the time when Germany surrendered. He was then transferred to the Pacific Theater where he served in the Philippines. After returning home in 1946 he succeeded his father as President of the family sauerkraut business, Flanagan Bros. Inc. which then became Great Lakes Kraut Co. and is now known as GLK Foods. Dave married Geraldine McPeak of New London on November 13 1947, and they had one son David Daniel. Dave served on the Bank Boards of Clintonville National Bank, New London First State Bank, and First National of Appleton, he also served on the New London Community Hospital Board and the Village Board of Bear Creek. He was a member of the New London Golf Club, Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s Parish, The Elks Club, and a member of Vilas County Improvement Co. Dave is survived by his son David D. and his wife Julie (Weisgerber) Flanagan and their son Beau Daniel. Nieces and Nephews: Ryan Downs, Paul Downs, Wendy Johnson, and Stephanie Downs. Sister in-laws, Pat Moriarty and Pat McPeak and brother in-laws, George Motto and Terry McPeak and his wife Ruthann. Preceding Dave in death was his loving wife of 58 year Geraldine in 2005. Also preceding Dave in death were his sister Marie Downs and her husband Paul. Sister in-laws: Dawn Peterson, Sally Jensen, Vivian Motto, DeDe Raschke, and Sharon Petersen, brother in-laws, Ercel McPeak, Mike McPeak, Bob Petersen, Pete Jensen, Dr. Ted Raschke. Funeral Mass for David will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Parish cemetery. Online condolences can be sent at www.cline-hansonfuneralhome.com.
