Ponto, Eldor L.

Eldor L. Ponto, age 81, of Weyauwega, was called to his heavenly home on Monday, September 3, 2012, at Lakeview Manor in Weyauwega following a lengthy courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 28, 1930, in the Town of Lind, Waupaca County, son of the late Louis and Mabel (Pagel) Ponto. He was baptized on January 25, 1930, and confirmed March 25, 1945, at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Weyauwega, of which he was a lifelong member. He attended Lind Center and St. Peter Lutheran School. On June 26, 1954, he was united in marriage to Joyce Flunker at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fremont. Eldor was a hard working person; he was employed at Neenah Foundry for 14 years, the Weyauwega-Fremont School District, M & I Bank, and had a floor refinishing business. He enjoyed polka music and his antique Ford cars, keeping them in order and going for country drives. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce; a son Daniel (Wendy) Ponto; daughter Deanne (Rick) Togstad; Eldor was blessed with 6 grandchildren, Heather, Cole, Lorelei Ponto, Emily, Nathan and Tyler Togstad; two step grandchildren, David (Michelle) Togstad and Adam Togstad. He is further survived by 3 brothers, Alton (Linda) Ponto, Elmer Ponto and special friend Jan, Lester (Jean) Ponto; brothers-in-law, Gordon Niemuth, Kenneth (Elsbeth) Flunker; sisters-in-law, Marcella Westphal, Sarah Pankow, Elaine and Jean Flunker, and also many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Vernice, a sister Arcille Niemuth, sisters-in-law, Margaret Pomerening, Doris Ponto; brothers-in-law, Bernhardt and Ernest Flunker, Raymond Westphal, Erwin Pankow and Calvin Pomerening. The Christian Memorial Service for Eldor was held on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 11:00 am at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Weyauwega with Rev. Dennis Lemke and Rev. Newlin Schafer officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Weyauwega. A visitation for Eldor was held on Saturday directly at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for St. Peter Lutheran Church or School. The family would like to thank his pastors who brought him much comfort and for the prayers of so many as well as Dr. Butkiewicz and staff, Dr. Phillips, Daisy and the entire oncology team, Riverside Medical Center, and also Lakeview Manor staff and Hospice for their kindness, care and support they provided.
