Another race season at Shawano Speedway comes to an end

It’s hard to believe but the leaves are starting to turn colors, and that is a sure sign of fall. Another sign of fall is the fact the 2012 race season at Shawano Speedway has reached its conclusion.

Congratulations go out to WISSOTA Late Model driver Nick Anvelink, IMCA Modified driver Jason Czarapata, IMCA Stock Car driver Dan Michonski, FASTRAK Late Model driver Joel Bennett and IMCA Northern SportMod driver Tracy Wassenberg for winning the championships in their respective divisions.

For those of you who follow this column weekly, you may remember that earlier this season I tried to predict who would win the championship in each division. Now that the season is over, we can look back and see how accurate I was at predicting the champions.

I had picked Czarapata, Michonski and Bennett to win their championships. In the WISSOTA Late Model division I predicted that Anvelink would win the WISSOTA Late Model championship if he didn’t miss a week of racing. Otherwise I was going with Paul Parker as the champion. Well, due to Mother Nature, Anvelink didn’t miss a week of racing, so I will take credit for that prediction. With that said, the only division I got wrong was the IMCA Northern SportMod division. I predicted Cody Hudson would win the championship. Four out of five isn’t too bad.

In the WISSOTA Late Model division there were 10 different feature winners during the year. Anvelink led the way with five feature wins. Troy Springborn won two features. Paul Parker, Dave Fieber, Brett Swedberg, Ron Berna, Gordie Seegert, Tom Naeyaert, Todd Frank and Justin Ritchie each won one feature during the year. For Fieber and Swedberg, it was their first feature wins in the division.

There were nine different feature winners in the IMCA Modified division. Czarapata led the way with four feature wins, followed by Lance Arneson, John Berna and Marcus Yarie who each won two features. Drivers winning one feature during the year included: Jared Siefert, Jerry Wilinski, Tim Jorgenson, John Peters and Mark Weisnicht.

In the IMCA Stock Car division there were five different feature winners during the year. Brandon Czarapata led the way with seven feature wins, followed by Michonski with five. Brian Ambrosius won two features, while Mitch Stankowski and Kasey Kolpack each won one feature.

Only three drivers won features in the FATRAK Late Model division, with two of those drivers being Bennetts. Joel Bennett dominated the division, winning 12 features. His brother Aaron Bennett won two features as did Jeff Curtin.

The IMCA Northern SportMod division also saw only three feature winners during the year. Wassenberg won nine feature, while Cody Hudson won five features. Jake Solin won one feature. Jason Jach won the big $1,000-to-win feature during the World of Outlaws Dirt Late Model Series show.

To end this column, congratulations go out to Weisnicht who won his first ever feature at Shawano Speedway on Saturday night. Weisnicht raced for years in the Late Model division and has been racing in the IMCA Modified division the last few years. Congratulations also go out to Kolpack for winning his first ever feature at Shawano Speedway on Saturday night.
