Trout to be stocked in Waupaca River

Crews from the Wild Rose State Fish Hatchery are scheduled to stock the Waupaca River in Waupaca Thursday, Sept. 20, with hundreds of brown trout.

Al Niebur, a state Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologist based in Shawano, said as many as 300 brood stock trout will be released at Riverside and Riverview parks.

Anglers won’t have long to fish for them, however, as the state’s inland trout season closes Sunday, Sept. 30.

Hatchery crews stocked the river with 450 5-pound fish this time last year. It was the first time the hatchery was allowed to stock the fish inland since the onset of VHS five years ago.
