Bulldogs finish strong against Berlin

Despite falling behind 12-0 early in the game, the New London Bulldogs came back and beat Berlin 43-12 on Friday night in New London.

Berlin scored a touchdown in the first quarter and added another in the second quarter to take a 12-0 lead, but New London stormed back by scoring 17 points in the second quarter to lead 17-12 at halftime. Bill Pence caught the first touchdown pass, covering 67 yards on a nice throw by quarterback Dylan Keehn. Pence later added a 34-yard field goal, and Jacob Thomas caught a 19 yard touchdown pass from Keehn to close out the first half.

The Bulldogs blew the game open in the third quarter, scoring 26 points. Jake Schmidt scored on a 19 yard scamper, and Thomas caught another touchdown pass from Keehn, covering 24 yards. Austin Postel then scored on a block punt, returned 13 yards for the score. Schmidt closed out the scoring with a 21 yard run to pay dirt.

The Bulldogs gained 208 yards on the ground and 157 through the air.

New London’s defense intercepted one pass and recovered two fumbles to swing the momentum in the home team’s favor.

New London plays at 7p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, in Denmark.
