Indians second at Wrightstown Invite

Weyauwega-Fremont’s volleyball team placed second Sept. 29 at the Wrightstown Invitational.

The Indians also stayed unbeaten in the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference volleyball standings Sept. 25 by taking three of four games from Manawa.

WRIGHTSTOWN – W-F defeated Sheboygan North (2-0), Lomira (2-0), Seymour (2-1) and Hortonville (2-0) to earn their way into the championship against host Wrightstown before dropping two games to the Tigers.

Team leaders included Teal Tomaszewski (78 digs); Morgan Wilson (six solo blocks); Bailey Kapitzke (36 kills); Danielle Austreng (33 kills);

Kelsey Akey (38 assists, 28 service points); and Mariah Hulbert (49 assists, 11 aces, 35 service points).

WEYAUWEGA – The Indians defeated the Wolves 25-14, 23-25, 25-13, 25-12.

Team leaders for W-F included Tomaszewski (20 digs, 15 service points); Hulbert (23 assists); and Kapitzke (18 kills).

“While we were plagued by service errors, we still found enough effort to take the win from the Wolves,” coach Rena Tomaszewski said.

The Indians played at Wittenberg-Birnamwood Oct. 2. Both teams headed into the match with 6-0 records in conference play. The match will determine the first and second seeds heading into the upcoming CWC-8 tournament. Both teams will host pool play Saturday, Oct. 6, starting at 10 a.m. Conference championships will be decided Tuesday, Oct. 9.
