NLHS students to present ?Once on this Island?

Students at New London High School have been rehearsing for the fall musical, “Once on this Island”.

“Once on this Island” explores the tradition of storytelling, not only as entertainment, but as a means of passing down history, values and insight from one generation to the next.

It deals with the classic themes of love, loss and redemption through the fabric of Caribbean culture, art, religion and social structure.

This original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island.

When Daniel is returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.

The performances will take place on Nov. 1, 2, and 3 at 7 p.m. in the New London High School Auditorium.

Tickets are $10 and will be available for purchase in the New London High School Main Office starting on Oct. 23. All seats are reserved and orders won’t be taken by phone.

The cast includes: Abbie Ruckdashel, Ashley Bucholtz, Casey Houlihan, Fernando Castillo, Darrien Renner, Nicole Goodreau, Jake Beckman, Blake Spilman, Zanna Zehner, Madelaine Trewin, Rella Besaw, Ali Cornelius, Abby Dorow, Savannah Goodwill, Haley Hawkins, Sasha Phillips, Matt Schuler and Marissa Selle.
