Art 4 Charity

Those who visit Originals, etc. this holiday season may find a gift for someone on their shopping list and also donate to a charitable organization.

A number of artists at the gallery have donated a piece of art and designated a charity of their choice, said David DeBolt, owner of the gallery at 204 N. Main St., in downtown Waupaca.

“If their piece sells, the proceeds go directly to the charity,” he said. “Customers get to buy a piece and donate to a charity at the same time.”

Art 4 Charity begins on Thursday, Nov. 15 and ends on Saturday, Dec. 15.

The blind bidding will end that day in case some want to give the art as a gift and need to mail it, he said.

Of the gallery’s 25 artists, DeBolt estimates two-thirds will participate in Art 4 Charity.

Information sheets are by the pieces of art which are included in the event.

DeBolt said the lowest acceptable offers will be noted on each Art 4 Charity information sheet, with the art sold to the highest bidders.

“Whoever has the highest bid above the minimum will get it. I will give the check directly to the charity,” he said.

Some of the gallery’s biggest name artists will be participating, and among the charities which have been designated are the Waupaca Area Food Pantry, the American Red Cross and the Waupaca County Humane Society.

DeBolt explained how he came up with the concept.

“I send out newsletters every month to my artists and asked if anyone had good ideas for a Christmas event. It was Russ Lowe’s idea. I tweaked it,” DeBolt said. “It should also create a little traffic for the gallery. While browsing to find the pieces, people may also find something else.”

DeBolt said it is a way to thank the community and support charities.
