The Comets will not be returning home with the state title this year.
Catholic Memorial of Waukesha defeated Waupaca 42-7 in the Division 3 championship game Friday at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
The Crusaders came into Friday’s game against the undefeated Comets with an 11-1 record, but they dominated the field Friday.
The first half ended with the score at 14-0, after the Crusaders’ defense caused Waupaca to turn over the ball three times.
On Catholic Memorial’ first play in the second half, running back Matt Hubley ran 70 yards for a touchdown.
Waupaca scored its single touchdown in the third quarter when quarterback Sam Menzies threw a 4-yard pass to Nathan Nelson.
