Thunderbirds suffer pair of losses

A big third quarter and nine three-pointers lifted Stevens Point Pacelli to a 67-52 win over Iola-Scandinavia Dec. 7 in a Central Wisconsin 8 Conference boys’ basketball matchup.

The Thunderbirds also opened conference play Dec. 4 by dropping a 53-42 decision to Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

IOLA – The Cardinals outscored the T-Birds 23-7 in the third quarter after Pacelli lead 28-27 at halftime.

I-S outscored the visitors 18-16 in the fourth quarter.

John Prahl and Braiden Garbe led the T-Birds with 18 and 10 points, respectively. Issac Elliot led three Cardinals in double figures with 17.

W-B 53, I-S 42

WITTENBERG – The Chargers led 10-5 after one quarter, but the T-Birds took a 23-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. I-S added to its lead with a 14-11 advantage in the third quarter, but W-B outscored the T-Birds 20-15 over the final eight minutes.

Prahl and Kristian Welch had 15 points each to lead the T-Birds, while W-B’s Mitchell School led all scorers with 21.

The T-Birds traveled to Shiocton Dec. 11 and will host Amherst at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, before Wisconsin Valley Lutheran’s boys’ and girls’ teams head to Iola Tuesday, Dec. 18, for a Rock the Gym event. Games are slated to get under way at 5 p.m. at the high school and the I-S Community Fitness & Aquatic Center.
