Waupaca dropped a pair of recent Eastern Valley Conference girls’ basketball games to Winneconne and Fox Valley Lutheran.
Winneconne 51, Waupaca 44
WINNECONNE – A slow start hurt the Comets Dec. 7 against the Wolves, as Waupaca trailed 8-2 after one quarter and 17-13 at halftime.
Winneconne added to its lead with a 20-12 advantage in the third quarter before Waupaca outscored the home team 19-14 in the final period.
Waupaca’s Mikaila Johnson led all scorers with 14 points, while Abby Luedtke led Winneconne with 12.
FVL 55, Waupaca 26
WAUPACA – FVL held the Comets to two points in the second and fourth quarters and six in the opening quarter.
The Foxes led 15-6 after one quarter, 32-8 at halftime and 46-24 after three quarters.
Johnson led the Comets with 10 points, while Taylor Hammer led FVL with 15.
The Comets traveled to Shawano Dec. 11 for a nonconference matchup and will return to EVC play at 7:15 tonight (Thursday, Dec. 13) in Berlin. The team’s next home game is set for 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, as Waupaca hosts Green Bay Southwest.
