Iola-Scandinavia’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams picked up nonconference wins Dec. 18 during Rock the Gym games with Wisconsin Valley Lutheran.
The Thunderbird boys defeated the Wolves 64-51, while the girls picked up a 49-15 win.

The short-handed T-Birds, playing without starters Isaac Lashua and Connor Lodewegen, held the Wolves to three points in the first quarter.
I-S led 15-3 after one quarter, 26-19 at halftime and 39-33 after three quarters before outscoring the visitors 25-18 over the final eight minutes.
John Prahl, Kristian Welch and Mike Blum finished in double figures for the T-Birds with 17, 15 and 12 points, respectively. WVL’s Branson Witucki led all scorers with 20.

The Wolves never got on track offensively, as they never scored more than six points in a quarter and didn’t score at all in the third quarter.
The T-Birds led 12-6 after one quarter, 25-9 at halftime and 40-9 after three quarters.
Brooke Phillips scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to lead the T-Birds, while Kylie Johnson added 12 points. Moriah Sawyer led the Wolves with 10.
The T-Bird boys and girls were scheduled to compete in another Rock the Gym Dec. 21 in Marion and will head to Tigerton Thursday, Dec. 27, for another Rock the Gym.
