Ski, snowboarder club plans Nordic Mountain trips
The Waupaca Ski and Snowboarder Club has scheduled its annual outings to Waushara County’s Nordic Mountain.
Trips are planned for Sunday, Jan. 6; Sunday, Jan. 13; Sunday, Jan. 27; and Sunday, Feb. 3.
The club is open to grades 6-12.
A bus will meet the group at Waupaca High School for each trip and will leave at 2 p.m. and arrive back at the school at approximately 8:30 p.m. Parents must be at the school to pick up their children on time. Chaperones are not responsible beyond arrival time back to Waupaca.
Students are asked to arrive at 1:30 p.m. the first club date (Jan. 8) to finalize last-minute details, complete registration cards and depart on time.
The ski program is strictly voluntary, so students must accept responsibility for obeying rules. Adult volunteers from the community will chaperone the trips and will be present on the bus, on the ski hill and in the chalet, but cannot hold the students’ hands.
Students new to skiing or snowboarding must take lessons first. A beginning skier/snowboarder is someone who has never skied or snowboarded before or is still learning. Major accidents have been avoided in the past because skiers/snowboarders took lessons and learned proper etiquette, proper technique and how to use the lift and rope tows. Helmets are included with all snowboard rentals and any lessons. Helmets can also be rented from Nordic Mountain for $3 a day.
Because this is a club, students are required to use the transportation provided by the club.
The club offers discounted rates to its members. Club members should choose one package and put the appropriate amounts next to the items that apply on the registration form. If a student has experience and does not need lessons or has his/her own equipment, these costs would not be added to the package prices.
Students are welcome to take more than one snowboard lesson. Include an additional $10 for each lesson added to the package.
The discounted price is a package deal for all four trips and must be paid for in advance with the registration preferably by Friday, Jan. 4. A separate registration form should be used for each person signing up. There is a no refund police and students are not allowed to transfer their package to anyone else.
Again this year is the opportunity to have adults and younger children join the club. They would be required to use their own transportation and come at the same time, but receive the same discounted prices.
Group rates are:
• Ski Package: lift ticket and transportation, $67; ski and boot rental, $44; lessons (two at $4), $8. Total: $119.
• Snowboard Package: lift ticket and transportation, $67; snowboard rental, $68; lessons (one at $10), $10. Total: $145.
If you are paying for transportation only, the cost for all four trips is $35. Just circle “transportation” on the registration form in the box designating what you will be doing: skiing or snowboarding.
Adult prices are lift ticket, $34; ski rental, $46; board rental, $68; and lessons and helmet rental, same as above.
Junior prices are lift ticket, $28; ski rental, $40; board rental, $68; and lessons and helmet rental, same as above.
