Girls outshoot Pines, but Eagles pick up the win

Northland Pines handed Waupaca Area a 4-1 loss Dec. 22 in a Great Northern Conference girls’ hockey matchup at the Waupaca Expo Center.

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Paige Healy and Sydney Moustakis, but Waupaca Area answered Mandy Tomlinson’s power play goal off of Tasha Smith’s assist.

Neither team scored in the second period, but the Eagles came up with a pair of goals in the third period. Jessica Roach scored a power play goal to make it 3-1 and Kali Ebert also found the net.

Waupaca Area goalie Cassie Rasmussen saved 13 of the Eagles’ 17 shots on goal, while Pines goalie Jenna Paez finished with 22 saves.

Waupaca Area will travel to Marshfield for a conference game at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4. The next home game, against Tomahawk, is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7.
