Abraham, Carl ?Ken?

Carl “Ken” Abraham, age 94, of Fremont, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at his home.

He was born on August 13, 1918, in Junction City, Wisconsin, the son of the late Carl and Hilda Abraham. Ken was a WWII Army veteran, serving 4 1/2 years in the US Army in the 36th “Texas” Division. His service travels took him to North Africa, Italy, France, Germany, and Austria. Upon completion of his WWII service, Ken returned home and married Helena Wangelin on March 2, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield. Together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage before Helena preceded him in death on November 21, 2008. Ken lived most of his life in the Fremont area and was active in many civic organizations, including the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, Wolf River American Legion Post 391, and the Fremont Building Corporation. He was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fremont, where he served on many committees. Ken also carried on his family’s business, Wolf River Oil Co., from 1935-1980. After retiring from the business, Ken developed a love for the game of golf. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King with his American Legion buddies, accumulating over 1500 hours of service. Ken and Helena shared a love for travel, golf, playing cards and their Green Bay Packers.

Ken is survived by: his daughter, Jane (Greg) Freer, Fremont; his son, Charles (Renee), N. Charleston, SC; a son-in-law, Erik Forsgren, Fremont; five grandchildren, Erica (Tom) Gisel, Andrew Weiss, Joshua (Kristal) Freer, Julia and Chase Abraham; three great-grandchildren, Carson, Rafe and Chase; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Abraham, Fremont and Phyllis Abraham, AZ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Ken was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn Forsgren; three sisters, Muriel (Gilbert) Puls, Verna Radtke and Lucille Abraham; two brothers, Harold “Jack” Abraham and Robert Abraham; and a son-in-law, Bill Weiss.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 107 Tustin Rd., Fremont. Pastor Stephen Pope will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fremont, with Miltary Rites by Wolf River American Legion Post 391. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday, from 9:00 AM until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church and Fremont-Wolf River American Legion Post 391.
