Sandra H. (Olson) Hanson, of Iola, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother died on Jan 18th, 2013 at Appleton Medical Center.
Sandy was born in Iola on May 6, 1943 to the late Selvin and Josie (Bekhus) Olson. She married her devoted husband, Rodger L. Hanson, on April 20th, 1963 at Hitterdahl Lutheran Church where she was also baptized and confirmed. Rodger preceded her in death on Jan 1st, 2012. Our mother was devoted to her family and her church. She was Ladies Aid president for many years, sang in the church choir, and wrote programs for Mother/Daughter banquets. She taught Sunday School and was approached years later by people who were in her class who commented on how she touched their lives. She was amazingly creative and loved to entertain people. Her “Hitterdahl Dollies” were always in demand. When her children were young she was PTA president and put together many of her kids’ school Christmas programs and they always had prize winning Halloween costumes. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and a Cub Scout den mother. Music was a moving force in her life. She delighted in having her family (“The Hanson Family Singers”) sing in church and local nursing homes.
Sandy will be missed by her five children and their families: Eric (Kim) Hanson and their son Ethan, Holly Hanson and her daughter Mikayla, Becky (Corey) Lippert and their daughters Katelynn and Brieanne, Krista (Stacey) Lippert and their daughters Josie and Ellie, Heidi (Lance Andraschko) Hanson and her son Cody (friend Kayla) and Cody’s daughter Kaedyn. She is further survived by her brother-in-law Verlyn (Shirley) Hanson, cousins Glenn (Bee) Moen and Milton (Linda) Moen, and many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Orinne Kerske and her husband Richard, and a niece Vickie.
The family would like to thank Pastor Dale Wilson for his many visits while our mother was in the hospital, friends Rosalind, Sharon, Roselyn and the staff at New London and AMC, especially Dr. Turk and nursing student Lisa. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Hitterdahl Luthern Church in the Town of Iola with the Rev. Dale Wilson officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday form 4-7 PM at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola and again on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
