Waupaca Area falls in overtime

Brianne Huettner had two goals and an assist for the Waupaca Area girls’ hockey team, but it still fell to Medford Jan. 21.

Waupaca Area also dropped a nonconference game Jan. 15 in Black River Falls.

Medford 4, Waupaca 3 (OT)

MEDFORD – Waupaca Area took a 3-0 lead on Huettner’s goals and one from Bobbi Sue Sell, but the Raiders stormed back with three unanswered goals in a six-minute span in the third period and won the game on Jaime Gardner’s goal 3:57 into the overtime period.

Mandy Tomlinson and Tasha Smith assisted on Huettner’s first goal 1:36 into the game.

Black River Falls 5, Waupaca 3

BLACK RIVER FALLS – Tomlinson put Waupaca Area on the board in the first period off of an assist from Molly Guyer, but Black River Falls responded with three unanswered goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead.

Waupaca cut into the lead on Sell’s goal off of assists from Chloe Koehn and Tomlinson.

Huettner made it a one-goal game with 2:55 remaining off of assists from Tomlinson and Smith.

Waupaca Area will travel to Antigo Saturday, Jan. 26, for a 3 p.m. matchup with Northern Edge, a co-op program with players from Antigo and Rhinelander.
