NL girls keep rolling with two more wins

Two more games in the win column and the win streak for the New London girls’ basketball team continues.

New London 63, Hortonville 35

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Hortonville Friday, Jan. 25. They looked to put the game away early outscoring Hortonville 21-4 in the first quarter.

Hortonville made a game of it in the second quarter, scoring 16 points to New London’s 14 points. Despite the good quarter, Hortonville still trailed 35-20 at halftime.

New London extended their lead by 10 points in the third quarter holding Hortonville to four points. New London again outscored Hortonville in the third quarter, 14-11, to take home a 63-35 victory.

Brenna Heise had a monster game, scoring 29 points after making 13 of 21 shot attempts. He also collected 12 rebounds and seven steals.

Mickey Roland contributed eight points and 11 rebounds, while Lexi Roland chipped in with six points.

New London 56, Luxemburg-Casco 24

Early in the week the team traveled to Luxemburg-Casco and went home with a convincing 56-24 win.

Luxemburg held strong in the first quarter, trailing New London 10-9 when the buzzer ending the quarter sounded.

New London upped their game in the second quarter, outscoring Luxemburg 16-7 to take a 26-16 lead into halftime.

A big third quarter extended New London’s lead by 10 points. New London’s defense then threw a shutout in the fourth quarter, outscoring their opponent 12-0.

Heise and Mickey Roland led the team in scoring with 13 points apiece. Each of them also had six rebounds apiece.

Amber Pethke and Megan Schlieve chipped in with eight points each.
