Wolves beat Wittenberg-Birnamwood, fall to Pacelli and Algoma

Playing three games in eight days, the Manawa Wolves won one and lost two.

Manawa 68, Wittenberg-Birnamwood 47

The Wolves took to the road Monday, Feb. 4 and came home with a 68-47 victory over Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

A fast start put Manawa up 21-10 at the end of the first quarter. The two teams battled back and forth in the second quarter, with W-B outscoring Manawa by one point. Manawa started the second half leading 34-22.

The Wolves were a scoring machine in the second half scoring 17 points in the third and fourth quarters. W-B put up 15 and 17 points in those quarters, giving Manawa a 68-47 win.

Logan Hass led the Wolves in scoring with 15 points. Wesley Krauss chipped in with 13 points, while Brandon Bartel and Austin Dean each scored 11 points.

Pacelli 73, Manawa 39

Manawa hosted Pacelli on Friday, Feb. 1 and were gracious hosts, falling 73-39.

It was all Pacelli in the first quarter as they took an 18-4 lead. Manawa battled back in the second quarter to outscore Pacelli by three points, but still trailed 27-18 at halftime.

The Wolves scored 14 points in the third quarter, but gave up 25 points on defense. The Wolves gave up 21 points in the fourth quarter and mustered only nine points of offense.

Krauss and Dean led the team in scoring with 10 points each, while Alex Murphy scored six points.

Algoma 61, Manawa 43

Earlier in the week Manawa traveled to Algoma and returned home with a 61-43 loss.

Manawa held strong in the first quarter, trailing 13-9. Poor second and third quarters doomed the Wolves, as they were outscored 21-10 in the second quarter and 16-8 in the third quarter.

The Wolves didn’t give up and outscored Algoma 16-11 in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t nearly enough to overcome the deficit they were in.

Krauss was Manawa’s leading scorer with 11 points. Dean and Murphy each scored eight points.
