Amherst, A-B win regional championships

Two area boys’ basketball teams wrapped up regional championships Feb. 23.

Amherst handed Stevens Point Pacelli a 58-52 loss in a Division 4 regional final, while Almond-Bancroft needed overtime to defeat Northland Lutheran 48-44 in Division 5.

Amherst will take on Oconto Thursday, Feb. 28, at D.C. Everest High School in Schofield in a sectional semifinal, while Almond-Bancroft will play Niagara Feb. 28 in Antigo. Tipoff for both games is slated for 7 p.m.

Sectional finals are scheduled for Saturday, March 2. If Amherst defeats Oconto, the Falcons would play Shiocton or Reedsville at 7 p.m. at Appleton North. If Almond-Bancroft knocks off Niagara, the Eagles would face Green Bay NEW Lutheran, Hilbert or Sheboygan Lutheran at 1 p.m. in Menasha.

The season ended over the weekend for Waupaca, New London and Iola-Scandinavia. Waupaca fell to Hortonville 59-41 and Antigo beat New London 45-44 in Division 2, while Amherst defeated Iola-Scandinavia 60-34 in Division 4.
