Wittenberg-Birnamwood needed a win over Iola-Scandinavia to share the Central Wisconsin 8 Conference girls’ basketball championship with Weyauwega-Fremont and Amherst.
Mission accomplished.
The Chargers held the Thunderbirds to five or fewer points in each quarter Feb. 21 and rolled to a 55-15 win in the regular-season finale.
I-S also dropped a 43-33 nonconference game to Stratford Feb. 18.

IOLA – The T-Birds mustered only five points in the first half, as W-B led 12-3 after one quarter, 24-5 at halftime and 43-10 after three quarters.
Karina Welch led the T-Birds with four points, while Tyisha Weed and CharAnn Bonikowske led the team in rebounds with five each.
Stratford 43, I-S 33
STRATFORD – The T-Birds took a 9-5 lead into the second quarter, but came up with only five points in the second quarter and eight points in the third..
Kylie Johnson and Brooke Phillips led the T-Bird with eight points each, while Bonikowske added a team-high seven rebounds and Weed added five steals.
Hannah Schmitt led Stratford with 17 points.
The T-Birds opened state tournament play Feb. 26 at home against Plainfield Tri-County. If third-seeded I-S defeated the sixth-seeded Penguins, the T-Birds will play at No. 2 Wild Rose at 7 p.m. Friday, March 1, in a Division 4 regional semifinal.
