Bartel, Phyllis Elaine

Phyllis Elaine Bartel, age 66, of Scandinavia, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at her home.

She was born on July 7, 1946 to Reinhard and Norma (Christian) Grulke. She was baptized on July 28, 1946, attended Immanuel Lutheran School and was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mayville, WI on May 15, 1960. On June 4, 1964 she graduated from Mayville High School and then attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL. She married Garold Bartel on May 28, 1966 at Immanuel, and after farming one year in the Mayville area, moved to Scandinavia where they were blessed to raise five children in the agricultural setting. The family attended St. Paul Lutheran Church, where Phyllis was involved with LWML, church choir, Bible Study, and while the children were in school, the PTL and other school related activities. She was a leader for Peterson Mill 4-H Club for over 40 years and also served as an officer for Waupaca FFA Alumni and Lutheran Brotherhood. She loved her Bible Study and inspirational books and magazines. Her greatest joy was working beside Garold on the farm and with the seed business, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and playing piano. She felt truly blessed to have been included as a sheep of Christ’s fold and looks forward to the apartment prepared for her by The Good Shepherd.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Garold; children: Rebecca Hein of Manawa, Ronda (Troy) Neidert of Waupaca, Ruth (Brad) Trinrud of Waupaca, John (April) Bartel of Scandinavia, and Rachel (Joshua) Jensen of Scandinavia; grandchildren: Dusten and Grant Hein; Bryce, Kerrigan and Hayden Neidert; Jensen and Griffin Trinrud; Verena and Owen Bartel; and Baby Jensen on the way. She is further survived by a sister and four brothers: Carolyn (Pete) Thompson of Mayville; Fredrick (Sandra) Grulke of Mayville; Steven (Nancy) Grulke of Mayville; Eugene (Cheryl) Grulke of Lomira; and Richard (Terri) Grulke of Beaver Dam; sister-in-law, Joyce (Gary) Chich of Iola; brother-in-law, Harlan (Susan) Bartel of Augusta, KS; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were a son, Jeffrey Michael, her parents, grandparents, and in-laws.

A celebration of Phyllis’ life will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Manawa, with Rev. Wally Waite officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 until 8 p.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home in Waupaca and again on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Little Wolf Cemetery, Manawa. A memorial fund has been established. The family would like to thank everyone for all the prayers, cards, kindnesses and flowers which she could enjoy these past months.
