Amherst boys heading to state
One area boys’ basketball team has advanced to state, while three girls’ teams won regional championships over the weekend.
Amherst handed Reedsville a 47-46 loss March 2 in a Division 4 sectional final in Waupaca. The Falcons will now take on Auburndale at 6:35 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in an Division 4 state semifinal at the Kohl Center in Madison.
Cuba City and Whitefish Bay Dominican will meet in the other semifinal and the state championship game is scheduled for Saturday, March 9.
Amherst, New London and Hortonville are still alive on the girls’ side.
New London and Hortonville will meet for the third time this season at 7 p.m. March 7 in a Division 2 sectional semifinal at Kimberly High School.
Meanwhile, the Amherst girls will face Oconto at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, in a Division 4 sectional semifinal at Menasha High School. The game was pushed back a day because of the Amherst boys’ state semifinal game.
Girls’ sectional finals are slated for March 9. The New London/Hortonville winner will take on La Crosse Central or La Crosse Logan at 2 p.m. in Marshfield, while the Amherst/Oconto winner will play Algoma or Oshkosh Lourdes at 7 p.m. in Waupaca.
