Thomas L. Thorn, age 77, of Iola, died Saturday, March 16th, 2013 at his residence.
Thomas was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 26, 1936, the son of the late Walter and Alice (Gunsten) Thorn. Tom married Judith Helene Olson on April 14th, 1969 at the Hitterdahl Lutheran Church Parsonage. She preceded him in death on Sept 16, 2008. Tom served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a truckdriver, millwright and farmer for most of his life. He enjoyed the outdoors, collecting tractors, flying and traveling. He was a wine-maker and he always liked to share with his friends. Tom was “jack of all trades” and there was nothing that he could not fix.
Tom is survived by sons: Kirby (Marlene) Thorn of Iola, Robert (Heather) Thorn of Oshkosh; daughter, Julie (Brad) Schellin of Caroline. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Kody Thorn, Emily Schellin, Amber Thorn and Noah Schellin; two step grandchildren, Travis Konkol and Crystal Leary; six step great grandchildren along with nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. Tom was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Thorn and brother, Ruben Thorn.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 20th, from 11-1 PM at the Nothland Lutheran Church followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 PM with Reverend Dan Somers officiating. A gathering with family and friends will be at the Northland Ballroom following the memorial service at the church. Interment of cremains will be in the parish cemetery.
